Time: 15 -20 minutes
-2 strip steaks each about 1 1/4 inches thick
-1 tsp coarse sea salt plus more to taste
-1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
-2 large sweet onions peeled and thickly sliced
-1 ½ Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
-1/2 tsp chili pepper
-1 large tomato cut into thin wedges
Prepare a grill for medium-high-heat cooking. Brush steaks lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Brush onions with remaining olive oil and sprinkle with cayenne pepper and chili powder. Grill or broil steaks and onions, turning once, until onions are browned and steaks are cooked to desired doneness, about 10 minutes for medium rare.
Transfer steaks to a cutting board and allow to rest 10 minutes. Chop onions, mix with tomato and season to taste with salt. Slice steaks thinly against the grain and serve with the onion salad.
