Mindfulness: Your Best Friend When it Comes to Cravings, Binges, and Stress
Let’s start with a simple description of Mindfulness so we’re all on the same page...it's that moment you consciously realize you're doing something you don’t want to be doing…like eating. We all do it and it is simply a habit…but it can be easily changed! Let me share with you a personal story with you about my own experience with mindfulness…I think will help put things in perspective. The other day I was chatting with my fellow Optimal Health Guides and Stephanie started talking about a member of hers who uses "the hair [more]
How many times have you decided to start working out…exercising…and then realized you were actually gaining weight? Relax…we have all been there. And some real issues as to why it happens to us…but it doesn’t have to be that way. I’ve been there and experienced it just as you probably have at some point. For me it was when I decided to get back into running. I always enjoyed running and decided I would get started again. I put on a few extra pounds and decided this would be a great way to kill [more]
7 Ways Meal Planning is an Act of Love
People who are healthy for life and perpetually thin have one thing in common…they take time to prepare meals for themselves. Meal planning is an act of love for both yourself and your family. It’s a statement to everyone that you’re health is worth it, and that you’re worth it. As they say, what gets planned gets done and what gets done is what changes us. A study by Cambridge University found that people who cooked at home five times per week or more were 47% more likely to add 10 years to their life. There was a [more]
BMI vs. Muscle Mass…which is a better indicator of HEALTH?
The other day one of our members came into our Optimal Resource Center and was quite distraught and confused. She was obviously bothered by something she has just heard from the people at her fitness center. When I asked what the problem was, she said, “I was just told that my BMI was out of whack and that according to their calculator I am borderline obese and need to lose almost 25 pounds. How can that be when I feel healthier than I have been in years on my Optimal Journey?” This is not uncommon…people get misled by BMI readings [more]
Are We Conditioning Our Kids to be Unhealthy?
Are we conditioning our children to be unhealthy and emotional eaters? If we look at our behavior patterns, many would say we are…and most don’t even realize it is happening. We’ve all been there… a long list of things to get done, a hectic day, and your child throwing a tantrum. As a parent, we all know it is stressful to manage a cranky child. And the end result is we do whatever we can to calm them down and restore order…including taking the easy road out and giving in when we normally wouldn’t. Everyone [more]
Eating Worms to Lose Weight…REALLY?
How far would you go to lose some weight? Would you consider swallowing a parasitic tapeworm so it could attach itself to your intestines and give birth to more tapeworms so they can consume your calories in an attempt to lose some weight? That is exactly what an Iowa woman did to get rid of some unwanted weight. She ordered a live tapeworm off of the internet and swallowed it in an attempt to lose weight without changing what she ate. Insanity? While most people would think so, it just goes to show the extreme lengths people will go to [more]
Do Diets Work Better When They’re Free?
Credit Suisse missed the point. For Weight Watchers or any other “diet company” it isn’t about the information or the tracking or the data…this isn’t what’s causing their rapid decline in stock value. It’s easier than they think…and technology isn’t the answer. Credit Suisse thinks diet programs should be free and they recently downgraded Weight Watchers (WW) stock from “neutral” to “underperforming” based upon that assumption. In a recent article in Business Insider, "Wall Street analysts think Weight Watchers is in serious trouble because it's not free," they talked specifically about the struggle [more]
Our “Community” thrives on using Social Media
Social Media is everywhere and growing faster than anything we have ever seen in history.  Now, unlike any other point in time, we have the ability to share our conversation with others and create "online communities" that connect people with the same passion together without the constraint of physical geography - how cool is that! Social Media is the perfect solution at the perfect time for Optimal365. We are ALL ABOUT COMMUNITY!! We are rapidly building a Community of people who are "passionate about Experiencing Healthy."  For many in our community, this may be the first time in their life [more]
Detox your Fridge
Optimal365 is about supporting you on your individual Journey to Experience Healthy.  A significant component of optimal health and weight management is detoxification. Since every fat cell in your body has both nutrients and toxins stored in it, when you lose fat, you are naturally detoxing. The word "Detox" may mean different things to different people, a few meanings I found: Detoxification, the process of removing toxins stored in the body Detox - a master colon cleanse - which this has nothing to do with (phew!) Detox, an album by hip hop artist Dr. Dre D-Tox, the 2002 film starring [more]
